Articles of Incorporation (Including Mission Statement)
of
Grant County Historical Society, Inc.

    We, the undersigned, natural persons, all of the age of twenty-one years or more,
acting as incorporators of a corporation under Chapter 24, of  the 1965 Session Laws of the State of South Dakota, the non-profit corporporation act of said state, adopt the following Articles of Incorporation for such corporation, via:

ARTICLE  I

    The name of the Corporation is GRANT COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, INC.

ARTICLE II

    The period of its duration is perpetual.

ARTICLE III

    The business and purpose of this corporation will be to bring together those people interested in history and pre-history, and especially history and pre-history of Grant County, South Dakota, and adjacent areas and to accomplish certain functions which will include:  To discover and collect any artifacts and materials and oral histories which may help to establish or illustrate the history and pre-history of the area; to provide for the preservation of such materials and their accessibility as far as may be feasible, to all who wish to examine and study it; to cooperate with officials in insuring the preservation and accessibility of the records and archives of the county and adjacent areas, and to undertake the preservation of historic buildings, monuments, and markers; to dissemi- nate historical information and arouse interest in the past by publishing historical material in the newspapers or otherwise, by holding meetings with pageants, addres- ses, lectures, papers, and discussions, and marking historic and prehistoric buildings, sites, and trails, and by using various media to awaken public interest in all of these; to practice and promote proper conservation techniques and to protect valuable materials, sites and information of historical and pre-historical importance against loss or
