Troy Stagecoach House
3 1/2 mi. south - 3 1/2 mi. west of Stockholm, South Dakota

In February 1880, in what was to become Troy Township, Grant County, the  homestead of John Potter was designated a US Post Office on the stagecoach route between Big Stone City and Watertown.
It operated for nine years.  The Potters also provided meals and lodging for travelers as well as feed and water for horses.  Governor Mellette, last executive of Dakota Territory and first governor of South Dakota, regularly stayed there.  The house was restored in 1992.
